SWARTHMORE, Pa. (February 24, 2023) – First-year
Stephanie Untermeyer dropped a hard-fought three-set match at second singles as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team fell to No. 29 Swarthmore College 9-0 Friday evening in a non-conference match at the Faulkner Courts.
Swarthmore claimed victories in all three doubles flights and then swept all six singles flights to improve to 3-0. Stevens dropped to 0-2. Friday's meeting was believed to be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Untermeyer's match with Lola Diaz at second singles began with the Ducks' first-year taking the opening set 6-1, before Diaz rallied to win the second set 6-4 to force a deciding third set. In the final set, it was Diaz that prevailed via a 6-3 score.
Up Next: Women's Tennis takes on its second straight nationally-ranked opponent on Feb. 26, when No. 25 Johns Hopkins comes to the Edgewater Tennis Club. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. It is believed to be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
