Andrew He each had singles victories. but No. 38 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis fell to No. 34 Occidental College 6-3 late Sunday in a non-conference match at the USTA Tennis Center.
Sophomore
Olof Persson and first-year
Max-William Kanz earned a win at second doubles for the Ducks, who dropped to 2-3.
Matthew O'Connor had a victory at first singles, while also winning at first doubles with partner Seth Lipe, for the Tigers, who moved to 8-2. Sunday night's meeting was the first between the programs.
After O'Connor and Lipe won the first match of the day, Persson and Kanz topped Ronald Chen and Ace Andres 8-5 to even the match. However, Isaac Herrenkohl and Zach Haas won the final doubles match 8-7 (7-0) to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
In the singles flights, Kulakarni topped Chen 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 on line two, while He topped Sam Coan 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on line three. Sophomore
Matt Luzzi forced a deciding third set on line six before falling 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Occidental won four of the six singles flights to claim the match.
Up Next: No. 38 Men's Tennis takes on Ithaca College on Mar. 14. The Ducks topped the Bombers 8-1 in the last meeting between the programs, which also took place in Orlando in 2018. The Ducks have won the last 15 meetings between the programs.
