ORLANDO, Fla. (March 14, 2023) – No. 38 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis swept all three singles flights in defeating Ithaca College 8-1 Tuesday in a non-conference contest at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Ducks claimed five of the six singles flights in improving to 3-3. Luis Vega had the lone victory of the day for the Bombers, who dropped to 3-3. Stevens has won the last 16 meetings between the programs.
Doubles play propelled the Ducks to an early 3-0 lead. Junior
Aashi Kulakarni and sophomore
Vivek Harinarayan topped Ithaca's top tandem of Siddharth Vaada and Jimin Woo 8-3. Sophomore
Olof Persson and first-year
Max-William Kanz scored an 8-5 victory on line two, while sophomore
Sebastian Wroe and junior
Andrew He defeated Jacob Wachs and Eric Dubilirer 8-5 to complete the sweep.
In singles play, Kulakarni, He and Kanz all won their respective matches in straight sets. Sophomore
Matt Luzzi and first-year
Timothy Lau rounded out the Ducks' victories on the day with three-set victory on lines five and six. Luzzi rallied to top Carlos Hernandez 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at sixth singles, while Lau bested Tyler Del Zoppo 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at fifth singles to provide the final margin of victory.
Up Next: No. 38 Men's Tennis will take on its fifth nationally-ranked opponent on March 15, when the Ducks tangle with second-ranked Washington University in St. Louis.
