Max-William Kanz earned singles victories but No. 38 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis fell to No. 2 Washington University-St. Louis, 7-2 Wednesday, in a non-conference match at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Kanz scored a hard-fought 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 victory over Pato Garcia Muriel at fourth singles and Luzzi defeated Henri Ohl in straight sets on line six to account for the Ducks' victories as they fell to 3-4. Wednesday morning's contest was believed to be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
The tandem of Abhi Ramireddy and Phuc Huynh, ranked fifth in Division III won 8-2 at first doubles, as the Bears swept the doubles flights and then won four of the six singles flights in improving to 8-1.
After WashU claimed the first doubles match, the Bears won at both second and third doubles via identical 8-5 scores to grab a 3-0 lead. When the match shifted to singles play, Huynh, ranked 32nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, needed a first-set tiebreaker to down junior
Aashi Kulakarni 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 at first singles before clinching the match.
The contest was the Ducks' fifth against a nationally-ranked opponent.

It will be the third all-time meeting between the programs, with the Cardinals holding a 2-0 lead in the series. Thursday morning's tilt will be the second between the teams in the Sunshine State.
