Matt Luzzi and first-year
Timothy Lau each forced a deciding third set in singles play, but No. 38 Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis fell at No. 29 Swarthmore College 9-0 Sunday in a non-conference contest at the Faulkner Courts.
Junior
Aashi Kulakarni and sophomore
Olof Persson fell via a tiebreaker at first doubles (8-7 (8-6)) for the Ducks, who fell to 3-6. The contest marked the Ducks' seventh against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Michael Melnikov, Max Lindstrom and Utham Koduri each won twice for the Garnet, who improved to 4-3 on the year. Swarthmore has won the last three matches in the all-time series.
Sophomore
Vivek Harinarayan and first-year
Max-William Kanz dropped a hard-fought 8-6 decision at third doubles with Lau and partner sophomore
Troy Zhang falling 8-2 at second doubles to Lindstrom and Rushil Patel.
With Swarthmore holding a 3-0 lead after the completion of the doubles flights, the Garnet won four of the singles flights in straight sets. Lau rallied to force a deciding third set against Aamish Pal on line six, before falling 10-7. Luzzi, meanwhile jumped out to a lead against Josiah Myers-Lipton, wining the opening set 6-3, only for Myers-Lipton to even the match via the same score to force the final set, which Myers-Lipton won 10-5.
Up Next: No. 38 Men's Tennis opens MAC Freedom play on April 1, heading to the Keystone State to take on Wilkes. The Ducks have won 17 straight conference matches dating back to 2019.
