NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (April 26, 2023) – The #1 seeded Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated #4 Lycoming in the MAC Freedom semifinals at home by a score of 5-0 at Braddock Park in North Bergen, New Jersey.
Stevens swept all three doubles matches and the first two singles matches to secure the five matches needed to advance to the MAC Freedom Championship. With the win, the Ducks improved to 9-9 on the season.
Graduate student Agatha Malinowski and first-year Stephanie Untermeyer took the first match of the day by a score of 8-0 over Emily Wolfgang and Emma Kelchner on line one. Sophomore Emma Eguia and first-year Anya Sharma also picked up a big victory on line two, winning 8-2 over Hannah Seebold and Rei Saar. Junior Polina Odintseva paired with first-year Fionna Flores completed the doubles sweep with a 8-0 win over Haley Seebold and Sarah Lanphear.
At singles, Untermeyer swept Hannah Seebold 6-0, 6-0 on line one, while Malinowski swept Wolfgang 6-0, 6-0 on line two, to earn the fourth and fifth points on the day, clinching the teams spot in the championship. The other four matches were declared unfinished, but Odintseva, Flores, senior Juliette Marchisio, and first-year Aliona Heitz all possessed leads over their respective opponents.
Up Next: The Ducks will host the MAC Freedom Championship on Saturday, April 29. The match will be played at Braddock Park in North Bergen, New Jersey.
