Women's Tennis Takes Down Husson To Advance to the Next Round of NCAA Tournament

It marks the second straight season the Ducks have won a NCAA Tournament match.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (May 5, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team defeated Husson University by a score of 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The match was hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Ducks have now won three straight matches after they won twice in the MAC Freedom Tournament en route to the Championship. Stevens did not drop a set in the match. They now have a record of 11-9.

In doubles, Graduate student Agatha Malinowski and first-year Stephanie Untermeyer took the first match of the day in dominating fashion by a score of 8-0 over Julia Barber and Molly Chicoine on line one. Sophomore Emma Eguia and first-year Anya Sharma also picked up a big victory on line two, winning 8-3 over Olivia Chandler and Sage Dubay. Junior Polina Odintseva paired with sophomore Isabella Dona to complete the doubles sweep with a quick 8-0 win over Hannah Duley and Sydney Loring.

Since the teams play first to five, the Ducks needed just two wins in singles play to advance. On line one, Untermeyer was able to lock in a quick victory over Emily Doten by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Malinowski earned the clinching point for the Ducks on the second line as she defeated Chicoine 6-0, 6-0. Stevens possessed leads or in all four of the other singles matches that would be declared unfinished. Odintseva led Barber 6-3, 3-3, on line three. On the fourth line, Eguia maintained a 6-1, 5-0 lead over Dubay. Dona held a lead over Lexi Thompson 6-3, 2-1 on line five, and first-year Fionna Flores led Loring 6-3, 4-1 on the sixth line to wrap up the unfinished matches.
