AMBLER, Pa. (May 6, 2023) – Sophomore Eli Somers had one hit and one RBI as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell to #1 Arcadia in the first game of a best two-out-of-three series in the semifinals of the MAC Freedom Tournament by a score of 7-2 Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field.
Aradia has now won three games against the Ducks this season. The five run margin is greater than all the other games combined. This is the first game played at home in the series as the other three games were played in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Stevens tallied just five hits in the game. Seniors Michael Reyes and Chirs Davis along with sophomores Victor Schilleci and Evan Pravato each tallied one hit in the contest.
Arcadia got off to a hot start as they scored three runs in the first inning. Trey Obarowski, Kevin Wheeler, and Justin Massiello each had an RBI in the first.
The Ducks got one run back in the second inning. With one out in the inning, Schilleci and Davis hit back to back singles. Sophomore Liam DeRubertis then reached on a fielding error which scored Schilleci. It was an unearned run.
Stevens got within one run as they got another one on the board in the top of the fifth. Somers got the RBI as he grounded out but scored DeRubertis, who reached base on a strikeout, but advanced on a wild pitch.
The Knights had another big inning in the bottom of the fifth as they got three more runs. They led 6-2 after five.
Arcadia extended their advantage with a RBI double from Anthony Bruno. That would put them up 7-2. The Knights would be able to hold on the rest of the way as they took game one and have a chance to advance to the next round with a win tomorrow.
Sophomore Jordan Fisse (1-2) earned the start for the Ducks. He pitched four innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He struck out five batters. Graduate student Joshua Casado was the best relief pitcher for the Ducks, pitching two innings and allowing no runs.
Carson Denham (6-1) pitched the whole game for Arcadia. He only allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. He struck out nine batters in the contest.
