HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 19, 2023) - Junior Adam Berrocal scored his second goal of the season but it wasn't enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team tied New York University (NYU) 1-1 on Tuesday night at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
The Ducks (3-1-2) see their winning streak come to a halt at three games with tonight's draw. The draw was a good road result from NYU, who now have a record of 1-4-2. Stevens has not beaten NYU in Hoboken since 2013. The Ducks have scored first in each game so far this season besides the 0-0 draw to open the campaign against Manhattanville. The 1-1 tie also breaks a two game shutout streak for Stevens.
NYU came out the aggressors as the Violets forced a save from graduate Justin Cross just two minutes into the game. NYU would also hit the crossbar in the 28th minute and then miss the follow-up attempt. Despite NYU having the better of the chances for most of the half, junior Emerico Vespucci had the best look for the Ducks in the first as his left footed volley inside the 18 yard box was tipped over the bar by the NYU goalie. The score would remain tied at zero at the half.
Just five minutes into the second half, Stevens got on the scoreboard courtesy of Berrocal. Junior Luca Campbell handled the ball outside of the box and played a perfect through ball to Berrocal, who was able to blast the ball to the far post from the right side as the Ducks took the 1-0 lead. 12 minutes later, NYU found their equalizer off of a well worked play that resulted in a headed goal past Cross. NYU threatened late, forcing a save from Cross, but they were unable to find a winner as the score finished 1-1.
