Korczukowski Scores Winning Goal in Overtime as Field Hockey Takes Down Montclair State On Umpire Appreciation Night

It was the first victory over the Red Hawks since 2009.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 27, 2023) - Junior Sarah Korczukowski scored the game winning goal in overtime as the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team defeated Montclair State 3-2 on Wednesday night at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

The Ducks (6-2) defeated Montclair State (4-6) for the first time since 2009, ending a 12 game losing streak against the Red Hawks. Stevens is also now 2-0 in games that have gone to overtime this season. The Ducks are now on a three game winning streak, matching their longest streak of the season when they won their first three games.

Montclair State came out the aggressors as they recorded two shots in the opening minutes but were unable to convert. The Ducks settled into the game and dominated the possession for most of the quarter. Korczukowski had two shots in the quarter but neither found the back of the net. In the second, Stevens was awarded a penalty stroke in the 26th minute. Sophomore Taylor Knox came on and converted for Stevens as they took a 1-0 lead into the break.

After neither team scored in the first quarter, the Red Hawks tied things up with just under 12 minutes remaining.  They would then take the lead in the 55th minute. Stevens wouldn't let that lead last long, as junior Makenna Quigley scored off a tip from first-year Sophia Cozza's shot just a minute after the Red Hawk goal to tie things up. The game would go to overtime and just over a minute in, first-year Lauren Flynn played a pass from near midfield that went all the way down to the Red Hawk goalie. She kicked it out right to Korczukowski, who then settled it and flung it over the goalies head into the goal to give the Ducks the walk-off victory.
