HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 20, 2024) - Graduate student Stephen Braunstein scored a game-high 25 points as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team defeated FDU-Florham 83-66 in MAC Freedom play Saturday afternoon inside Canavan Arena.

The Ducks improved to 13-4 and 4-2 in MAC Freedom play. The home success continues for Stevens, as they are now 9-1 inside Canavan Arena and have won five-straight on their home floor. The Ducks improve to 20-5 all-time over the Devils, including being 11-1 against them in Hoboken. The Devils fell to 3-14 and 0-6 in MAC Freedom play. Stevens remains in third place in the conference standings while FDU-Florham is in last. The top four teams qualify for the MAC Freedom tournament.

FDU-Florham scored the first basket of the game, but the Ducks then went on a 10-0 run capped off by an and-one by first-year Xander Singh. Singh would also score the next four for the Ducks. Stevens restored their lead to eight at 21-13 when graduate student Conor Coffey made a floater in the lane. With the Ducks up seven and 7:15 on the clock, senior Mike Goodall converted a three-point play, and Coffey then made a basket and got fouled but missed the free throw. Graduate student Tommy McGuire and Singh each scored to continue the Duck run and force a timeout from the Devils.  With 4:17 to go, the Stevens lead grew to 18 after a basket by junior Jack Spellman, who had 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half. The Ducks led 41-24 at the break.

Braunstein scored the first Duck points of the half as he made a three and a two to put Stevens up 20. After FDU-Florham made two free throws, Braunstein came back on the other end and made another triple. Stevens would score the next six points, as Braunstein, Goodall, and Coffey each made baskets to extend the Duck lead to 27. After the Devils cut it to 23, McGuire and first-year Kyle Maddison made baskets to regain the four points they gave up. With nine minutes left, the Devils got back to within 15. The Stevens lead remained 15 or higher the rest of the way, as the Ducks walked away with another home victory.
