Field Hockey Falls 4-2 to Arcadia

Glenside, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team led 2-0 early in the second half, but a three-goal fourth quarter for Arcadia University proved to be the difference as the Ducks fell to the Knights 4-2 Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lily Wierzbicki had three saves for Stevens (10-5, 3-1 MACF) in the opening quarter. After being held without a shot over the first 15 minutes, Stevens flipped the script in the second, forcing two saves from Arcadia goalkeeper Anna Doblovsky on their first four attempts. After Dobrovsky stopped a Julia Zatyko attempt, Jess Kopernick beat several Arcadia sticks to the loose ball, knocking home the first goal of the night.
Carrying that 1-0 lead into the half, Molly DiCampli doubled it just over a minute into the third quarter. Arcadia (10-6, 4-0 MACF) got one back just under five minutes later, with the Ducks holding the 2-1 lead into the final frame.
Arcadia got the tying goal just over a minute into the final period, then go-ahead and insurance goals 30 seconds apart just past the midway point. Stevens outshot the Knights 5-4 during the quarter, but could not find the back of the cage.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kopernick scored for the second straight game and fifth time in the last seven games, surpassing her total from last season.
  • Wierzbicki finished with five saves, her highest total in her last seven games.
FROM THE FIELD
"Today's final score isn't indicative of the game and the quality of hockey that we put together for long stretches. While we didn't get the win, there were lots of smaller wins that the score doesn't show. These learning opportunities only gear us up and get us ready for post season." – Head Coach Meredith Spencer-Blaetz
