Patchogue, N.Y. – Tommy Scholl dropped a career-high 27 points for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team, who picked up their largest win in nearly three years, 90-59, over St. Joseph's – Long Island 90-59 Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With the Golden Eagles up 10-8 six and a half minutes into the first half, Stevens went on a 10-0 run in just over three minutes, courtesy of a pair of
Jack Spellman layups and three-pointers from
Kyle Maddison and
Lucas Green.
After a few traded baskets, with the Ducks still holding a 25-18 lead at the 6:38 mark, Stevens put its foot back on the gas, reeling off 11 straight in less than three minutes, capped by back-to-back threes from Maddison and Scholl.
Scholl added five more as the lead ballooned to 24 before the Golden Eagles trimmed it back to 20 at the half.
The Golden Eagles worked the deficit back to 15 less than a minute into the second half, but Spellman pushed it back out to 19 with a pair of layups, then two more layups from
Harmehar Chhabra and Scholl pushed the margin back over 20.
With the lead still at 20 at the 14:56 mark, Scholl's monster game continued with a three-pointer and fast break layup, extending the gap to 25, then 28 after
Mike Goodall knocked down his only three of the game.
That 28-point margin was eventually trimmed back to 17 just shy of the midway mark of the half, but threes from
Matt Leming, Scholl, and Maddison plus layups from Spellman and
Anthony Loscalzo put Stevens back up by 24.
The shot-making frenzy continued as threes from Maddison and Scholl and a pair of
Brendan Coughlan layups gave the Ducks their first 30-point lead of the game with 3:31 to play.
The scoring subsided significantly from there, with each side adding a single bucket a piece over the final 11 total possessions.

"Tonight was a great team effort. We were pretty active defensively and that got us going. We were able to get out in transition and we did a great job sharing the ball."
