Women's Basketball Cruises Past Brooklyn College, 63-41

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women basketball cruised to a 63-41 triumph over Brooklyn College on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks stormed out of the gate, outscoring the Bulldogs 15-1 over the first 4:45. Kay Decker had five points as Leyla Castro added six during the spurt. The Stevens defense was lockdown in the opening quarter, holding the guests to one made field goal over the first 5:48. Stevens extended the margin to 18 late in the frame, as Castro knocked down a triple with 1:05 left.

After the two sides combined for six points in the 58 ticks of the second stanza, neither side was able to generate much offense for most of the period. The teams went nearly six minutes without scoring before the Bulldogs knocked down consecutive three-pointers to whittle the lead down to 12. Stevens capped off the scoring in the period as Isabella Duval hit from deep with five seconds to go.

The Stevens defense limited the Bulldogs to 17.2% (5-of-29) shooting in the opening half while forcing 11 turnovers. Castro led all scorers with nine in the half as Dorothy Lofredo chipped in six. The Ducks held a commanding 32-18 edge in rebounding, with Decker and Zoe Kashner grabbing six apiece.

After the Bulldogs closed to within 12, Stevens reeled off seven consecutive markers, with Loffredo polishing the run off with a layup and free throw. Castro's triple with 4:02 remaining in the third extended the lead to 19 before the gap went over 20 for the first time on a Loffredo layup, as Olivia Schubiger had the assist.

The Bulldogs held Stevens scoreless for over four minutes in the fourth quarter but could not do much on the offense. They scored five points while limiting the Ducks to just two points over the first seven minutes. Decker snapped the drought with a layup, putting back an Olivia Schubiger miss.
