Women's Basketball Topped by No. 3 Scranton

Hoboken, N.J.  – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team started hot but dropped a non-conference contest to No. 3 Scranton, 73-30, Monday night at Canavan Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kay Decker answered an early Scranton (6-0) layup with a tough turnaround and a free throw, sparking an 8-0 run for the Ducks, with Dorothy Loffredo adding four courtesy of a reverse layup and jumper from the left wing.

After going scoreless for more than five minutes, Scranton scored on three straight possessions, but a Leyla Castro layup and three-pointer kept Stevens (3-3) in front, 13-8. Two more Scranton layups worked the score back to 13-12 at the end of the quarter.

With the score tied at 17 ninety seconds into the second quarter, both teams went cold, going nearly three minutes without scoring a point. Back-to-back Royals' threes ended the drought and gave the visitors their largest lead of the night. Lucy Alberici ended a four-and-a-half minute scoring drought for the Ducks with her first points since the season opener, but Scranton ended the half on a 14-4 run, carrying a 31-21 lead into the locker room.

Scranton put the game away in the second half, outscoring the Ducks 42-9.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Alberici returned to the lineup after missing the last four games to injury, finishing with five points and seven boards.
