No. 2 Men's Volleyball Handles SUNY New Paltz in 3-0 Sweep Tuesday Night

The Ducks take down the Hawks for the second time this season.

HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 20, 2024) – Graduate students Percy Bickford and Nathan Lancia each recorded nine kills as the No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball beat SUNY New Paltz 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-17) Tuesday night inside Canavan Arena.

Graduate student Louden Moran totaled 32 assists and added four kills. He also tallied five digs and two blocks in the contest.

Stevens hit .414 for the match, including .500 in the second set. The Hawks hit just .108 for the match.

Stevens sees their winning streak rise to 12-straight games with the victory. The Ducks improved to 28-12 over New Paltz, including winning the last five. Stevens is 14-0 against the Hawks all-time in Hoboken. The Hawks fall to 9-7 this season.

The Rundown

  • First-year Tyler Hoke started the match off with a bang as he recorded a kill to put the Ducks up 1-0. Later with the Ducks up 7-6, the home side went on an 8-0 run to take a commanding nine-point lead. The run started with back-to-back kills from junior Koby Sherman and Lancia, and graduate student Connor Feulner had an ace as the Ducks went up 10-6. Feulner would add another ace on the run. Stevens later led 20-9 following an ace from senior Carver Weirick. The Ducks would take the set 25-14 and lead 1-0 for the match.
  • New Paltz took 3-1 and 6-3 leads early on in the second set. Bickford would then get a kill, followed by a New Paltz error that got Stevens back within one. Trailing 10-8, Stevens took their first lead of the frame after a 3-0 run, which included a kill from Moran. It would be tied at 13 until Stevens scored five-straight to go up 18-13. On the run, Sherman tallied two kills and an ace, while Moran and Bickford added one kill. Feulner and Lancia would later tally back-to-back kills to restore the Ducks five-point lead. They would go on to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Looking for the sweep, Stevens took a 7-4 lead to kick off the third. Bickford tallied two kills early, while Lancia and Sherman each added one. The Hawks would come back and tie it at nine, but Lancia had another kill to break the deadlock. Moran would get one on the next point to put the Ducks in front two. Leading 13-11, Sherman and Lancia had back-to-back kills to take a four-point lead. Bickford and Feulner would record a block a few points later to put Stevens in front by five. They would seal the match down the stretch, securing their 10th sweep of the season.

  • Bickford finished the match with a hitting percentage of .615 on just 13 attacks. He also had four digs.
  • Feulner recorded a team-high four blocks.
  • Sherman and Hoke each had six kills.
  • Senior Phu Quy-Ho had a team-high eight digs and added two assists.
  • The Ducks tallied five aces.
