Women's Tennis Clinches Postseason Berth After Shutting Out DeSales

The Ducks lost only nine games en route to the sweep.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (April 20, 2023) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team clinched a MAC Freedom postseason berth as they won 9-0 over DeSales in a MAC Freedom match Saturday afternoon.

The Ducks will once again be in the postseason as they look to secure yet another conference title. They can clinch the #1 seed in the conference with a win on Wednesday. Stevens improves to 9-5 and 4-0 in MAC Freedom play with the victory. The Ducks are on their longest winning streak of the season, having won their last six matches. The Ducks are now 6-0 all-time against the Bulldogs. DeSales falls to 7-5 and 2-3 in MAC Freedom play in the loss.

Stevens controlled things from the opening match, as they took a 3-0 lead after doubles. The Bulldogs were only able to take two games out of the three matches, as first-year Julianna Gomez and junior Isabella Dona shut out their opponents on line two, while first-year Lorena Piegas and sophomore Aliona Heitz did the same on the third line.

It was more of the same for the Ducks in singles as they won each match in straight sets. First-year Alix Dry and sophomore Stephanie Untermeyer each did not lose a game on the singles side, while the Ducks as a whole only lost seven games in singles as they cruised to victory.
