BAYONNE, N.J. (April 24, 2023) – Four Ducks picked up two wins as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team clinched the #1 seed in the MAC Freedom tournament after beating Arcadia 8-1 Wednesday afternoon.
The Ducks celebrated senior day, honoring senior Polina Odintseva before the match.
With the win today, Stevens clinched the #1 seed in the MAC Freedom tournament. The Ducks are on their longest winning streak of the season, having won their last seven matches. The Ducks are now 4-0 all-time against the Knights. Arcadia falls to 6-5 and 2-3 in MAC Freedom play in the loss.
Stevens controlled things from the opening match, as they took a 3-0 lead after doubles. The Knights were only able to take three games out of the three matches. First-year Julianna Gomez and junior Isabella Dona blanked their opponents on the third line, while first-year Lorena Piegas and sophomore Anya Sharma lost just one game on the second line.
The Ducks remained in control in singles play as they took five of the six matches. Piegas was dominant on the sixth line for Stevens, winning 6-1, 6-0. First-year Alix Dry and sophomores Stephanie Untermeyer and Fionna Flores each lost just three games in their respective singles matches.
