Baseball Splits Doubleheader at No. 25 Arcadia to Earn Series Win

Chip Krese recorded four RBI in game one to lead the Ducks.

GLENSIDE, Pa. (April 6, 2024) – First-year Chip Krese recorded four RBI on two doubles while also scoring twice in game one, as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team defeated No. 25/NR Arcadia 7-5 (F/7) in game one, but lost 10-0 (F/7) in game two Saturday afternoon in a MAC Freedom doubleheader.

Graduate student Leo Bristow (1-2) picked up the win in game one. He gave up four runs on four hits in four innings of work, while striking out two. Junior Joe Gonzalez (1) earned his first career save. He pitched three innings, giving up one run on five hits.

Sophomore William Sotiropoulos (1-2) took the loss in the second game. He lasted just two innings, giving up four runs on three hits.

With the split, the Ducks win the series against Arcadia, earning their fourth MAC Freedom series win of the season. The team is now 16-9, and improved to 8-4 in conference play.

Stevens is now 6-11 all-time against the Knights. The win in game one was the team's first ever win in a true road game at Arcadia. The Knights fell to 17-9.

The Rundown (Game 1)

  • Arcadia scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Stevens responded with four runs in the top of the second to tie the game. Junior Zachary Boykin and first-year Tyler Wilke each singled to start the inning. After senior Frank Tonina executed a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners, first-year Chip Krese hit a two-run double down the right field line to score both runners. In the next at-bat, graduate student Ben Tobio singled, which advanced Krese to third. Tobio would then steal second. With two outs now, senior Christian Kreiser singled to bring both runners home as the Ducks tied the game.
  • With one out in the third, Boykin and Wilke got things rolling again as they each picked up singles. They then proceeded to execute a double steal, putting runners on second and third. Krese would then record two more RBI, as he doubled to center to score both runners. Tobio would then score Krese in the next at-bat, as he also recorded a double. Stevens led 7-4.
  • Arcadia put up one run in the bottom of the fifth to get within two.
  • Gonzalez was able to get Arcadia to ground into a double play in both the sixth and seventh innings as the Ducks held on for the victory.
The Rundown (Game 2)
  • Arcadia scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Knights doubled their advantage in the bottom of the second.
  • The home side would add another in the third to go up 5-0.
  • Arcadia tallied two more runs in the fifth.
  • Stevens got a runner in scoring position in the sixth but were unable to score.
  • The Knights would put up three more runs in the final two innings as they cruised to victory.

  • Krese tallied three hits on the day.
  • Krese, Tobio, Boykin, and Wilke each had two hits in game one.
  • Kreiser recorded two RBI.
  • Tobio also scored a run and picked up an RBI.
  • Boykin and Wilke each scored two runs.

  • Nadell Booker (3-3) took the loss in game one. He pitched four innings and allowed seven runs on 11 hits.
  • Hunter Curley (3-1) earned the win in the second game. He lasted five and a third inning, allowing just two hits.
  • Kevin Wheeler tallied three hits, two RBI, and scored twice.
  • Solomon Griffith recorded three RBI, two hits, and scored a run.
  • Anthony Bruno had three hits, two RBI, and scored twice.
