New Paltz Knocks Off Men's Soccer, 1-0

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team was topped by New Paltz 1-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Graduate student Guillermo Castaneda-Chang was pressed into action early, making a ninth-minute stop on Brian Boylan. The Ducks had their first shot in the 18th minute as Martin Field pushed his try wide. Adam Berrocal notched the team's first shot on goal in the 24th minute, but Christian Micheli made the denial. Castaneda-Chang made three saves late in the first half, and two sides entered halftime tied at zero.

Casteneda-Chang stopped Alberto Molina off a set-piece try in the 51st minute before Micheli snared Ben Goldberg's 56th minute chance. Both sides continued to hunt for the opening marker, with Nick Lapczynski getting stopped in the 72nd minute. The Hawks broke through in the 79th minute, with Brandon Dhanoolal rocketing a shot from distance that evaded Castaneda-Chang. Stevens had one final chance, but Brian Babovic's attempt sailed wide.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Castaneda-Chang made five saves in the setback, matching his season-high set against Ohio Wesleyan University on September 1, 2024.
• Babovic and Matthew Murillo paced the Ducks with two shots.
