Women's Volleyball Sweeps Misericordia in MAC Freedom Opener

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team knocked off Misericordia University 3-0 in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opener on Wednesday.

Meg Dion tallied nine kills and four blocks for Stevens (10-2, 1-0 MAC Freedom), who won 25-23, 25-23, 25-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars used a 4-0 run in the opening frame to go up 6-4 before the Ducks reeled off the next four, including two aces from Ella Kraver. With the frame knotted at 10, Vivian Lisboa put down a kill, and consecutive Cleo Shannon kills extended the lead to four. Dion and Parker Adkins tallied kills to go up 19-15 before Shannon ended set one with a kill from Molly Harris.

Kraver's ace capped off an 8-3 run to open set two before the lead swelled to seven on an unforced attack error. The Cougars fought back and notched seven consecutive markers to draw even at 13 before Bailey Axelrad sprung a 7-0 spurt, including back-to-back aces to go up 20-13. Adkins recorded a kill from Dion to make it 24-18, but Misericordia countered with five consecutive points. Adkins punctuated the second set victory with a kill, as Axelrad picked up the assist.

Stevens jumped out a 15-7 lead in the third frame, and the lead swelled to nine on a Dion kill. The visitors trimmed the gap down to five on an ace before an unforced service error, and an Elle Maggio kill made it 22-15. Stevens came away with the victory as a Dion kill brought up match point before a serving error ended the match in favor of Stevens.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Maggio and Adkins added eight kills each.
• Axelrad paced the defense with 14 digs, with Adkins tacking on 10.
• Meghan Peters led Misericordia with nine kills and eight digs in the setback.
