Field Hockey Knocks Off Moravian, 6-1

Bethlehem, Pa. – Sophomore Sophia Cozza of the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team scored twice and added an assist as the Ducks took down Moravian 6-1 on Wednesday evening.

Junior Gabi Moroney, seniors Emily Smart and Sarah Korczukowski, and sophomore Molly DiCampli tallied goals for Stevens (2-0), with Sydney Anderson notching the lone marker for Moravian (0-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks wasted little time, peppering goalkeeper Maia Machado with two shots in the first two minutes. Stevens broke through at the 4:06 mark, with Cozza feeding Moroney for the opening marker of the contest. The lead doubled 1:13 later as Smart put in her first goal of the season. The Stevens defense surrendered just one in the first period, as Lily Wierzbicki made a denial in the eighth minute.

The Greyhounds outshot Stevens 3-1 in the second frame, with Wierzbicki blocking two shots. The biggest came in the 25th minute, as the junior stopped Lexi Dinsmore on a penalty stroke. The visitors went into halftime up 2-0 and outshot Moravian 6-4 in the first half.

The Ducks controlled the third quarter, collecting all nine shots in the stanza. 3:50 into the period, Korczukowski converted to make the score 3-0 before Cozza netted her first of the night in the 37th minute. After Jess Kopernick was stopped twice midway through the period, Taylor Brooks found Cozza, who deposited the ball into the back of the cage to stretch the gap to five.

Moravian recorded their lone tally of the night 1:41 into the fourth quarter before the Ducks polished off the scoring with 1:47 remaining. Julia Zatyko passed to DiCampli, who beat the Moravian goalie to cement the victory.
