Women's Volleyball Sweeps Manhattanville in Home Opener

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team limited Manhattanville College to a .011 hitting percentage in a three-game sweep on Friday night.

The Ducks (4-0) topped the Valiants (2-3) 25-16, 26-24, and 25-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks jumped out to a 13-7 advantage early in the opening frame. Stevens spread the ball around, as Cleo Shannon had two kills with Ella Boland, Vivian Lisboa, Meg Dion, Elle Maggio, and Sarah Bolduc contributing kills during the rally. Manhattanville closed to within four at 18-14, but the trio of Lisboa, Maggio, and Bolduc extended the lead back to seven. Stevens reeled off four of the final five markers, as Dion pinned down set point off a feed from Molly Harris.

Stevens raced out to an 8-1 lead in the second stanza, with Paulina Miller serving up two aces during a 5-0 run. Manhattanville didn't back down, forcing a tie at 16 and going ahead 19-16 after a 6-1 run. Three Manhattanville errors pushed the hosts back in front before three out of four markers went in favor of the guests, putting the Valiants at set point. A service error prolonged the frame before a bad set gave Stevens the one-point edge. Dion stepped up to the service and delivered an ace, giving Stevens a 2-0 lead in the match.

The home side registered 10 of the first 15 points in the third set, with an Ella Kraver kill ending the rally. Three points from Manhattanville made it 14-9, but Kraver delivered consecutive aces to kick-start a 5-0 run. The Valiants got as close as seven, but an attack on match point completed the Stevens victory in straight sets.
