Spellman Hits Rebounding Milestone as Stevens Topples FDU-Florham

Madison, NJ – Senior Jack Spellman of the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team secured his 1,000th career rebound as the Ducks took down FDU-Florham 90-67 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play on Saturday.

Spellman joins Simon Smith as the only two in program history with 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds and is believed to be the sixth in NCAA Division III history with 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 300 blocked shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the game tied at four early in the opening minutes of the contest, Stevens (14-3, 6-0 MAC Freedom) went on a 9-0 run, hitting three-pointers on three straight trips down the floor. Tommy Scholl hit the first two before Kyle Maddison finished the run with a three. Maddison pushed the Stevens lead to double digits with a three at the 12:52 mark off a Scholl assist. Lucas Green contributed six points over a two-minute stretch midway through the opening period, and Anthony Loscalzo got into the action with a three with 8:08 remaining.

After a technical foul to FDU (7-10, 1-5 MAC Freedom), Maddison drained three of four from the charity stripe to extend the Stevens margin to 16 at 40-24. Five straight markers from Mike Goodall pushed the score gap to 20, but the home side ended the first half with a 9-0 run while holding Stevens scoreless over the final 4:12.

The Ducks shot 15-of-32 from the floor, including 9-of-19 from deep, over the first 20 minutes.

Scholl opened the second half with eight straight points, including back-to-back three-pointers, as the lead grew to 17. The score hovered around 17 for most of the opening parts of the second stanza before Scholl tipped in his
own miss, pushing the score to 66-47. Harmehar Chhabra and Goodall notched consecutive triples, and Spellman's tip-in layup stretched the gap to 23. Spellman crossed the 1,000 rebound plateau at the 4:53 mark, corralling a defensive rebound and drawing the foul. Stevens closed out the victory with a three-pointer by Chhabra with 29 ticks remaining.
