Women's Basketball Opens 2025-26 With 41-Point Win Over Kean

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team got contributions from players up and down the lineup in an 87-46 victory in their 2025-26 season opener Saturday afternoon from Canavan Arena.

Five Ducks scored at least seven points, seven grabbed at least four rebounds, and four handed out at least three assists as the team shot over 50 percent from the floor and 60 percent from three, recording assists on more than 74 percent of their made field goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 4-0 early, the Ducks went on a 9-0 run capped by back-to-back Isabella Duval three-pointers, forcing a Kean timeout. The Cougars worked their way back to a 9-9 tie, but another Duval three kick-started a 15-6 spurt over the final six minutes of the quarter – Fiona O'Boyle and Olivia Schubiger each had four during the extended run.

The Ducks got baskets from four different players in the first 3:30 of the second quarter – Dorothy Loffredo, Audrey Kehoe, Duval, and Schubiger – with Loffredo and Schubiger adding a second bucket each as the lead quickly reached 20 just past the midway point of the period. Maya Abramson added a pair of layups and CeeJay Thomas knocked down two last second free throws as the Ducks carried a 43-23 lead to the locker room.

The teams combined for just eight points in the first 4:45 of the third quarter, but totaled 30 over the final 5:15.  Abramson led all Ducks with seven during that stretch while Leyla Castro knocked down a pair from beyond the arc as the Ducks lead reached 30, 67-37, heading to the fourth.

The start of the fourth quarter belonged to Schubiger as the senior had the Ducks' first eight points. In the final three minutes,  Katherine Bogutsky and Grace Love each knocked down a three, Maja Skopic had two layups, and Morgan Gentilucci had the Ducks final points of the day with another layup.

Schubiger led all scorers with 20, Duval had 15 (all via three-pointers), Abramson had 13 and six rebounds in just 18 minutes; Castro stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, and six assists; Kehoe had seven points, six rebounds, and four steals; Loffredo had four points, four rebounds, and tied Castro with a game-high six assists; O'Boyle grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes, adding three blocks;
