Field Hockey To Host Amherst in NCAA Tournament First Round

Hoboken, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team will host Amherst College in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship on Wednesday at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm. Stevens (18-2) earned the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Misericordia on Saturday. Amherst (8-8) fell to Tufts, 3-2, in the NESCAC Quarterfinals but received an at-large bid to the national tournament.

The Ducks are paced by senior goalkeeper Lily Wierzbicki, who set a single-season program record Sunday with her 18th victory of the year. Offensively, Stevens is led by senior forward Gabi Moroney, who has tallied 16 goals and 36 points. Moroney became the fifth player in program history to record 100 career points with a goal against FDU-Florham on Nov. 1.

Amherst is led by Bella Kim, who has scored five goals and shares the team lead with 11 points alongside Justine Liquori. In goal, Kate Grady (37 saves) and Grace Puchalski (18 saves) have split starts this season, with Grady posting a 5-5 record and Puchalski going 3-3.

Wednesday's matchup will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Stay tuned to stevensducks.com for updated information, including ticket prices and live stats and video links.
