HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team closed out 2025 with a strong 65-44 win over Rowan Tuesday afternoon from Canavan Arena.
Playing their first game in 21 days, the Ducks showed no signs of rust early on, shooting 55.6 percent in the first quarter, one of two in which the Ducks shot at least 50 percent.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Leyla Castro and
Olivia Schubiger carried the offense for Stevens (8-2) early on, combining for the team's first 10 points as the Ducks carried a 10-8 lead to the media timeout. Two baskets each from
Maya Abramson and CeeJay Thomas, plus another from Schubiger put the Ducks up 10, 22-12, at the end of the quarter.
Early second quarter baskets from O'Boyle and Castro pushed the lead to 14, but Stevens went more than six minutes without a point and nine minutes without a field goal, as the Profs closed to within five, 29-24, in the closing seconds of the first half. With less than five seconds to go,
Isabella Duval grabbed an offensive rebound near the right corner, turned, and buried a deep three, putting the Ducks back up by eight heading to the locker room.
The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter, with the Ducks briefly taking a 13-point lead, 44-31, before conceding six straight;
Dorothy Loffredo ended the mini-Rowan run with a jumper in the final minute of the quarter.
Loffredo's jumper wound up being the first of 10 straight for the Ducks, as baskets from
Audrey Kehoe, Schubiger (two), plus another from Loffredo helped Stevens open a 54-37 lead with 5:32 to play. The Profs briefly stopped the burst with baskets on back-to-back possessions, but two Kehoe layups kickstarted an 11-0 run as the Ducks opened their largest lead of the day in the final minute of the game.
