Teaneck, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team earned three victories on Sunday at the FDU Invitational.
The Ducks posted wins over Hunter (14-13), Yeshiva (20-2), and Lafayette (23-4), while falling to host FDU (16-11).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Epee dominated 8-1 in the victory over Hunter, with
Grace Hicks,
Sofia Stoeckel, and
Katherine Mooney combining for eight total wins. Foil added five victories, paced by
Akemi Rodriguez (2-1) and
Julia DiPaolo (1-2), while sabre contributed a win from
Anastasia Mose. The foil squad delivered a 6-3 result behind 2-1 performances from
Emily Zgombic, Rodriguez, and DiPaolo in the setback against FDU. Sabre added a single win from Mose, while epee earned four victories, led by three wins from Hicks and one from Stoeckel.
In the victory over Yeshiva, Stevens swept foil 9-0 as Rodriguez, DiPaolo, and
Selita Ikejibeh each went unbeaten. Sabre added three more wins—including two from Mose—while epee recorded an 8-1 mark with Hicks, Stoeckel, and Mooney again controlling the strip. Stevens continued its strong outing with the win over Lafayette, earning a 6-3 advantage in foil behind DiPaolo's 3-0 round and a pair of wins from Rodriguez. Sabre posted a 6-0 sweep with contributions from Mose,
Ashlyn Leung, and Arushi Kaur, while epee delivered an 8-1 performance highlighted by three wins apiece from Hicks and Stoeckel, along with two additional victories from Mooney.
