Balanced Scoring Leads Women's Basketball Past King's

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team knocked off King's College 84-75 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks (15-8, 9-3 MAC Freedom) notched five of the first seven markers of the game, as Leyla Castro opened the scoring with a three-pointer before Audrey Kehoe added a layup. After King's closed to within one at 9-8, the Ducks reeled off four consecutive markers on baskets from Kehoe and Olivia Schubiger. The lead grew to seven at 20-13 on a Dorothy Loffredo jumper, forcing the Monarchs into a timeout with 3:15 remaining in the first. After Stevens pushed the score into double figures on a three from Isabella Duval, King's closed the first with six of the final eight points but trailed by seven entering the second.

The Stevens defense limited King's to one field goal over the first 5:40 of the second, as an 8-2 spurt from the visitors extended the gap to 12. Katherine Bogustsky, Schubiger, and Sugar Williams
all converted shots during the run to help pad the advantage. Castro closed out first-half scoring, beating the buzzer with a layup to give Stevens the 48-39 edge entering halftime.

The Monarchs battled back, using an 11-2 run over the first 2:29 of the third quarter to tie the contest at 50. Lucy Alberici reeled off four consecutive points to give the Ducks the advantage back before King's grabbed their first lead of the afternoon after five straight tallies. A Fiona O'Boyle layup switched the lead back in favor of Stevens and kick-started an 8-0 run, which was polished off by a Duval three-pointer.

Schubiger's jumper 2:03
into the stretched the scoreline to double digits at 68-58. A three-pointer from the Monarchs made it a two-possession game with 6:44 remaining, but Stevens reeled off six consecutive points to go back up by 12.
