Alberici's Big Night, Strong Second Half Lead Women's Basketball Past Delaware Valley, 54-43

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Lucy Alberici led a trio of Ducks in double figures as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team outscored Delaware Valley 30-17 in the second half Tuesday night in a 54-43 win in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom affair.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Leyla Castro and Alberici had Stevens (16-8, 10-3 MACF) up 4-0 less than a minute in with a pair of layups. After Delaware Valley tied it, Audrey Kehoe knocked down a jumper off a Castro assist, putting the Ducks up, but the Aggies took a 7-6 lead with a three on the ensuing possession. Isabella Duval answered back with a three-pointer two possessions later, flipping the score back in favor of the Red and Gray, but the Aggies reeled off eight in a row before a Castro layup pulled the Ducks within 15-11 in the final minute. The Aggies tacked on a layup on in the final 30 seconds, carrying a six-point lead to the second quarter.

Alberici answered a three from the Aggies to open the second quarter scoring, but Delaware Valley quickly worked the lead to 10. From there, the Ducks began their extended comeback. Two Alberici layups pulled Stevens back within six, then jumpers from Olivia Schubiger and Loffredo cut the lead back to a single possession. The Aggies got a pair back at the free throw line, but Dorothy Loffredo kept it a one-possession game at the half with a jumper just shy of the final minute.

After trading baskets and free throws over the opening three minutes of the third quarter, Alberici put Stevens on top, 31-30, with a layup at the 6:50 mark, the team's first lead since the 4:02 mark of the first quarter. Kehoe added a layup for a three-point lead and Loffredo answered an Aggies free throw with a jumper, leaving the score 35-31. While the Aggies added three more at the line over the final four minutes of the quarter, Alberici knocked down a three-pointer and a pair of layups, putting the Red and Gray up eight, 42-34, heading to the fourth.

Alberici knocked down a pair of free throws to start the fourth quarter scoring, giving Stevens its first double-digit advantage of the evening. The Aggies worked the deficit back to seven with 3:50 remaining, but a Schubiger free throw and jumper from Loffredo pushed it back to 10 with 3:11 left. Castro made it a 12-point game with 2:43 remaining, and the Aggies did not draw closer than 10 the rest of the way.
