Men's Basketball Snaps Skid, Tops King's 55-41

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid, topping King's College 55-41 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyle Maddison got the Ducks (17-6, 9-3 MAC Freedom) offense going early, scoring the first eight points for the visiting side as Stevens went up 8-2 early. Maddison knocked down three-pointers on consecutive possessions during the run to increase the lead. Both defenses locked down as the two teams combined for just two points over a five-minute stretch. King's (10-11, 5-7 MAC Freedom) was held without a point for over six minutes, and a Mike Goodall layup forced them into a timeout.

Both sides struggled to score midway through the period, but the Monarchs used an 11-0 run to grab their first
lead of the game at 15-12. Logan Scott stopped the rally with the traditional three-point play, converting a layup, drawing the foul, and hitting the free throw. King's snapped a 17-17 tie with 53 seconds remaining in the period to take a 20-17 into the halftime break.

In the first 20 minutes,
both Stevens and King's were under 25% from the floor, combining to shoot 15-of-70 overall and 6-of-30 from three.

With the Ducks trailing 22-19, they embarked on a 16-0 run started by a Jack Spellman layup. Spellman and Maddison had five points during the spurt, while Harmehar Chhabra added four. After a Matt Leming three-pointer extended the lead to 13, King's took a timeout. The timeout worked as the score went under 10, but Maddison drained his fourth three-pointer
of the contest to bring the gap back to 13.

The home side did not go down without a fight, putting
in six consecutive markers to claw with seven at 38-31. Scott halted the comeback with a layup, and after recording a steal, Tommy Scholl banged in a three-pointer off a Goodall assist. Scott gave the Ducks their largest lead of the day at 14, putting back an offensive rebound off a Scholl miss. After three Chhabra free throws, Goodall capped off the Stevens scoring with a three-pointer.
