CHAMPS! Women's Swimming Wins MAC Championship

York, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swim team won their second Middle Atlantic Conference Championship, totaling 1,644.5 points over the last four days.
 
Delaney Klaus was named the MAC Rookie of the Year after tallying four first-place finishes and one second-place mark, while Head Coach Adam Schneider was named the MAC Coach of the Year for the first time.
 
The Ducks, who previously claimed the 2020 MAC Championship, were runners-up the last three seasons. Three-time defending champion Messiah took second with 1,161 points, while Misericordia was third with 1,100.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dora Dvorkin got the Ducks started, taking second in the 1,650 freestyle. Dvorkin's time of 18:06.15 was good for second, holding off third place by .75 seconds. In the distance event, Abigail Rosingana (18:35.32) and Julia McKinley (18:36.61) took fifth and sixth, respectively. 
 
Klaus continued her strong rookie campaign, grabbing first place in the 100-freestyle. After entering the finals with the second-best mark of 53.56, Klaus broke 53 seconds, touching the wall in 52.99 and edging her Misericordia competitor by .51 ticks. Stevens finished off the wins in the 400-freestyle relay, as Eszter Kiss, Kylie Martinez, Kai Wong, and Klaus won by over two seconds. The foursome registered a time of 3:34.51 to take home first. Wong was eighth in the 100-freestyle in 54.89 after posting a 54.69 clip during the morning session. Natalia Brunetti led a trio of Duck swimmers in "A" final of the 200-back, finishing second in 2:08.6. Sophia Patz was fifth in 2:10.77, with Rachel Merrifield right behind her in 2:10.77. 
 
Gabby Sokolik finished fourth in the 200-breaststroke in 2:29.03, as Emery Fitzharris (2:32.41) and Adriana Bertolotti (2:35.49) made the "A" Finals and took seventh and eighth, respectively. Martinez finished 14th in the 100-free, clocking in at 55.96, while Melissa Misurelli won the "B" final of the 200-back with a time of 2:13.72. The senior missed qualifying for the finals by a mere .05 seconds. Ashley Settle notched a victory in the "B" final of the 200-breast, clocking in at 2:31.62 and besting her prelim time by over three seconds.
