ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Gabi Moroney from the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team was named to the sport's Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) team, the league office announced Monday.
The award honors 11 field hockey student-athletes from programs in both the MAC Freedom and the MAC Commonwealth. A student-athlete must have a fall semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award and nominated student-athletes are voted on by the athletic communications offices from the conference's 16 member institutions.
Moroney, one of just two non-seniors/graduate students on the team, adds the honor to her postseason haul that included First Team All-MAC and First Team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region IV recognition.
Moroney tallied a league-best nine goals in MAC Freedom play, part of a 16-goal season overall, the highest single-season total for the Ducks since Victoria Alvarez scored 18 times in 2017. Moroney's most noteworthy efforts included a hat trick against DeSales and a two-goal effort against Delaware Valley. She scored in each of the team's final three regular season games, including the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Lebanon Valley and the double-overtime game-winner in a 3-2 thriller at Misericordia, which clinched a top-two seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament, then notched the eventual game-winner and an assist in a 5-3 win over DeSales in the MAC Freedom semifinals.
