Middletown, Conn. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat against Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals secured the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. The duo of
Matt Luzzi and
Samvid Andhare put up a strong fight at No. 3 doubles but ultimately fell 7-6 (8-6) in the tightest match of the three.
Mihir Parcha and
Max-William Kanz dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 2, while
Vivek Harinarayan and
Olof Persson fell 6-2 at the top of the doubles lineup.
In singles play, Kanz delivered the Ducks' lone victory at No. 1. After dropping the opening set 6-3, he bounced back with a 6-3 win to force a decisive third-set tiebreak, which he claimed 10-5. Andhare nearly extended his match at No. 3, battling back after a 6-1 first-set loss. He came close in the second set but was edged 7-5.
At No. 2 singles, Parcha fell 6-1, 6-2, while
Aidan Miller was defeated 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4. Luzzi suffered a 6-3, 6-0 loss at No. 5, and Persson was topped by identical 6-1 margins at No. 6.
