Women's Tennis Topples Gettysburg 7-0 in Home Opener

Edgewater, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team took down Gettysburg College 7-0 in their home opener on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens had a convincing display at doubles, winning all three flights to claim the doubles point. Lorena Piegas and Stephanie Untermeyer teamed up at the top of the lineup for a 6-0 triumph, while Milagros Carbajal Diaz and Alix Dry duplicated the result at No. 2. The duo of Julia Chiovitti and Emma Eguia completed the sweep, taking a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Untermeyer quickly dispatched her opponent at the No. 2 singles flight, winning 6-1, 6-0. Chiovitti and Carbajal Diaz were equally impressive at the bottom of the lineup, as Chiovitti won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6, and Cabajal Diaz was victorious 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. Eguia needed a tiebreak to claim the opening frame 7-6 at No. 4 singles before blanking her opponent 6-0 in the second frame. 

Dry and Piegas each claimed the first set in their match but dropped the second. Dry won 6-2 but fell 6-4 in the second, with Piegas falling 6-4 in the second after winning 6-4. Both rebounded from their second-frame setbacks, as Dry won 6-1 and Piegas notched a 6-4 triumph to close out the victory.
