Seven-Run Third, Four-Run Fourth Lead Baseball Past King's, 11-3

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team scored early and often, putting 11 runs on the board across the 3rd and 4th innings in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series opener with King's College Friday afternoon, coming away with a decisive 11-3 win.

Four starters had at least two hits for Stevens (7-9, 4-0 MACF), eight had at least one RBI, and seven scored at least one run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After starting pitcher Erik Sibbach struck out three of the five men he faced in the second, working around a two-on, one-out threat in the process, the Stevens bats rewarded his efforts in the top of the third.

Frank Tonina led off with a single, moved to second on an Evan Pravato sac bunt, then took third on a Victor Schilleci groundout. Eli Somers followed with an RBI single, then stole second. Dylan Fishbough made it 2-0 with a double to center and Luke Mahala reached second on an error, with Fishbough scoring the third run of the inning. Liam DeRubertis doubled to left-center for a four-run frame then, after Kieran O'Brien was hit by a pitch then teamed up with DeRubertis for a double steal, Colby Ching put a stamp on the inning with a two-run double to left, knocking the King's starting pitcher out of the game. Having batted around, Tonina knocked his second single of the inning, plating pinch-runner Kevin Villares for a 7-0 Ducks lead.

Sibbach worked around some two-on, two-out traffic in the bottom of the third, and the Ducks' bats went right back to work, with the first five batters of the inning collectively hitting for the cycle.. Schilleci led off with a home run to right, Somers followed with a double, and Fishbough followed Somers with a single. With one out, DeRubertis tripled to center, plating Somers and Fishbough; O'Brien made it 11-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Sibbach exited after five scoreless frames, capping his outing with back-to-back strikeouts, escaping a bases-loaded, one-out threat. Connor Herlihy, Evan Carrier, Sean Shea, and Zach DeGeorge held the Monarchs to just three runs and three hits over the final four frames.
