NEW YORK, N.Y. – Junior Leyla Castro was named All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Second Team and senior Lucy Alberici was named All-MBWA Honorable Mention, as announced by the organization on Monday.

The All-MET honors are the first such honors for each during their collegiate careers. Castro and Alberici were also named together to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom team last month – Castro to the First Team and Alberici to the Second Team; Castro was also selected D3Hoops.com All-Region Second Team.

The duo are believed to be the first Stevens women's basketball teammates selected All-MET in the same season in program history.

Castro finished the year with career-best averages of 13.7 points, 4.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.57 steals per game. The Old Bridge, N.J. native was an ironwoman on the court for the Ducks this season, averaging 33.8 minutes per game, including seven games playing at least 38, totaling 947 minutes, more than anyone else in the MAC Freedom or MAC Commonwealth. Castro dropped at least 20 points six times, including a career high-tying 25 in the MAC Freedom Championship Game against DeSales.

Alberici averaged a career-high 13.4 points per game this season, adding 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and just north of one steal per contest. The Ducks' lone senior notched five 20+ point games, including a 26-point performance against Lebanon Valley in the MAC Freedom opener, playing the full 40 minutes, shooting 12-for-13 from the free throw line. Alberici also had 15 points to go along with a game-high six assists in a MAC Freedom semifinal road win over Arcadia.

The 2024-25 All-Met teams will be honored at the 92nd MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Thursday, April 24, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, New York. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.
