HOBOKEN, N.J. –
Erik Sibbach turned in one of his most dominating starts of the season, needing just 80 pitches to close out a complete game, five-hitter in an 8-1 win for the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team over Delaware Valley Friday afternoon from Dobbelaar Field in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play.
Sibbach allowed just seven total base-runners and induced outs from 18 batters on the first or second pitch of the respective at-bats. Offensively, the Ducks provided ample run support, with the 1-through-6 hitters in the lineup (
Victor Schilleci,
Eli Somers,
Dylan Fishbough,
Liam DeRubertis,
Chip Krese, and
Jack Reichlin) all notching at least one hit, finishing the day a combined 11-for-24, scoring all eight runs, driving in six of them.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoreless entering the bottom of the second, Reichlin led off with a single and advanced to second when
Kevin Villares reached on an error. With one out,
Frank Tonina tucked a hard hit ball just inside the first base line, scoring Reichllin.
Sibbach worked around a threat in the second, inducing an inning-ending pop out after Delaware Valley loaded the bases with two out.
Still 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, DeRubertis and Krese singled to lead off the inning, setting the table for Reichlin who launched a long double to center, scoring both. Two productive groundout later, Reichlin came in to score, making it 4-0.
Schilleci greeted Delaware Valley reliever Lucas Santise with a home run well beyond the right-center field wall, putting Stevens (21-11, 15-1 MACF) up 5-0.
After Jared Ecenroad spoiled Sibbach's shutout with a home run leading off the Delaware Valley seventh, the Ducks got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Krese singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on a balk, and came in to score on a Reichlin sacrifice fly.
After a bloop single from pinch-hitter
Robert Savely plated two more in the bottom of the eighth, SIbbach went back out for the ninth and, as he had done in the first, fourth, and sixth, retired the side in order to close out the complete game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
