BAYONNE, N.J.– The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team topped Arcadia Wednesday afternoon, 4-0, advancing to the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship Match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The top-seeded Ducks dominated the fourth-seeded Knights from the opening doubles points to the final singles points.
The duo of
Lorena Piegas and
Gigi Arenas won 6-1 at No. 2 and the No. 3 pairing of
Milagros Carbajal Diaz and
Sude Aytekin won 6-0; in the unfinished match at No. 1,
Alix Dry and
Stephanie Untermeyer were leading 5-1.
The first singles point (and second point overall) was captured by Aytekin at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Piegas put the Ducks one point from the win with another 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 and Untermeyer put the finishing touches on the win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2.
In the unfinished matches, Dry (6-2, 5-2) and Carbajal Diaz (6-1, 5-0) were both one game away from a win at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively, and
Emma Eguia led 6-0, 3-0 at No. 5.
UP NEXT
The Ducks will host #2 Lebanon Valley in the in the MAC Freedom championship on Saturday, exact time and location to-be-determined, seeking a fourth straight conference crown. The Dutchmen downed Misericordia 4-0 in the other semifinal Wednesday.
