Edgewater, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play with a commanding 7-0 victory over Misericordia University on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens entered singles action with a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches.
Stephanie Untermeyer and
Lorena Piegas teamed up for a 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot, while
Alix Dry and
Sude Aytekin also posted a 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Gigi Arenas and
Emma Eguia wrapped up doubles play with a 6-2 triumph at No. 3, giving Stevens all three doubles points.
In singles, Eguia cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Dry and Piegas earned identical 6-1, 6-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively. Untermeyer dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, while Aytekin recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Arenas sealed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
