ANNVILLE, Pa. – Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball student-athletes Lucy Alberici and Leyla Castro were both named Academic All-MAC by the Middle Atlantic Conference Office on Monday.

Academic All-MAC teams for all sports are based off semester grade-point averages (GPA) for the semester of their championship season. The minimum GPA required is a 3.20, and the student-athlete must remain an eligible member of the team through the conclusion of the season. Voting for this award is based on 50% academic excellence and 50% athletic prowess.

Alberici and Castro were both previously named All-MET by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) and All-MAC Freedom by the conference office. Believed to be the first Stevens women's basketball teammates selected All-MET in the same season in program history, the duo are also the first Stevens women's basketball teammates named Academic All-MAC since Jess Broad and Allie Moss were both selected in the program's inaugural season in the conference in 2019-20.

Alberici, the Ducks' lone senior, averaged 13.4 points per game this season (a career high), adding 5.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per contest. Alberici notched five 20+ point games, including a 26-point performance against Lebanon Valley in the MAC Freedom opener, playing the full 40 minutes, shooting 12-for-13 from the free throw line; she also had 15 points to go along with a game-high six assists in a MAC Freedom semifinal road win over Arcadia.

Castro was an ironwoman on the court for the Ducks this season, averaging 33.8 minutes per game, including seven games playing at least 38, totaling 947 minutes, more than anyone else in the MAC Freedom or MAC Commonwealth. The Old Bridge, N.J. showed no signs of fatigue during her near-1,000 minutes on the court, finishing the year with career-best averages of 13.7 points, 4.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.57 steals per game. She also scored at least 20 points six times, including a career high-tying 25 in a MAC Freedom Championship Game victory over DeSales.
