HOBOKEN,
N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half, then survived a furious second half rally from Kean for a 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon at DeBaun Athletic Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emerson Kekesi struck first for the Ducks, heading home a cross into the box from Matthew Murrillo in the fourth minute. Kekesi outdid himself just over 10 minutes later, completing his brace by tucking an 18-yard left-footed volley inside the left post as Cougars' keeper Juan Orozco went diving the opposite direction.
Lucas Mendes had a great look in the 31
st minute, but Orozco made a leaping save, though Mendes did find the back of the net less than 10 minutes later when he tapped home the rebound off an initial
Nick Lapczynski effort that Orozco kick saved right to the first year.
Stevens (2-2-3) had a few chances to expand the lead even further well into the second half, as
Martin Fields and
Joseph Pinho were both denied by Orozco, while Kekesi's bid for a hat trick just missed the mark.
The Cougars got one back in the 64
th, a second in the 73
rd, and had a look at an equalizer in the 87
th, but
Sebastian Montoulieu made his one save of the day a spectacular one with a leaping, punching denial of Jamie Madrid's bid for a brace of his own.
