No. 16 Field Hockey Explodes for 10 Goals in Shutout Win Over Eastern

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team lit up the scoreboard Saturday afternoon in a 10-0 win over Eastern, improving to 7-0 this season.

The Ducks scored the second-most goals in a game in program history, eclipsed only by a 13-0 win over Albertus Magnus on September 5, 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Gabi Moroney scored first less than a minute in, then followed a goal from Lauren Flynn with her second of the day late in the first quarter, providing Stevens a comfortable early cushion.

Brooke Hughes' first helper of the day came on an Ava Pelletier goal just past five minutes gone in the second quarter; Sophia Cozza made it 5-0 shortly past the midway point of the period, and Jess Kopernick made it 6-0 with just over three minutes left in the half; the Ducks finished the opening 30 with 21 shots, 16 of them on-target.

The Red and Gray kept the pressure on into the second half, with Cozza adding her second of the day just past two minutes gone in the third quarter for the Ducks' seventh of the afternoon, a new season high. Jenna Piantieri made it 8-0 and Rosella Birns notched her first collegiate goal off Hughes' second assist of the day with five minutes left in the quarter.

Moroney added the day's final goal late in the fourth, completing her hat trick on Hughes' third assist; the Ducks finished the day with 36 shots, 26 of them on-target (both season highs).
