Castro's Season-High 19 Points Leads Women's Basketball Past Delaware Valley, 64-49

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team collected a wire-to-wire victory Wednesday night, a 64-49 triumph over Delaware Valley in MAC Freedom play at Canavan Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks started the game on a 12-2 run, hitting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the floor, with Leyla Castro, Dorothy Loffredo, Olivia Schubiger all pitching in four. The two sides went cold for a 3+ minute stretch before a Schubiger layup and Castro three-pointer kept the Ducks in front by 10, 17-7 after the opening 10; Schubiger went 3-for-4 in the period, matching the Aggies' team field goal total (3-for-18).

The second quarter opened with Loffredo and Audrey Kehoe each making a layup, though Delaware Valley did work the margin back to 10 at the 6:35 mark. Katherine Bogutsky converted a layup through contact and Isabella Duval hit a pair of three-pointers for a 30-13 Stevens lead, but, again, both teams went cold, as the Aggies scored the final four points of the half over the last 4:30, Stevens carrying a 30-17 lead to the locker room.

Duval had the Ducks' first five of the second half, and Castro followed by sandwiching a pair of baskets around a Schubiger layup and free throw, with Stevens (13-3, 4-1 MACF) remaining comfortably in front, holding a 42-26 lead. May Abramson capped a 10-0 run for the Ducks with a three-pointer and fastbreak layup, putting the Ducks up 21, the margin remaining at 19, 47-28, at the end of the third.

Two Loffredo free throws and a Castro layup through contact gave the Ducks their biggest lead of the game, 51-28, less than a minute into the fourth. The Aggies reeled off the next eight in less than 90 seconds, keeping things from getting completely out of hand, though Stevens remained in front by at least 15 throughout the final frame, with Castro & Abramson each knocking down a three, and Fiona O'Boyle and Schubiger each converting layups.
