Men's Basketball Takes Down Delaware Valley, 75-66

Doylestown, Pa. – In a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup that featured 13 ties and 17 lead changes, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team outlasted Delaware Valley University, 75-66, on Wednesday night.

Matt Leming led Stevens (9-7, 3-2 MAC Freedom) with 15 points, while Mike Herrin paced the Aggies (8-8, 2-3 MAC Freedom) with a game-high 19 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens fell behind by nine early, trailing 14-5 heading into the under-16 media timeout of the first half. Consecutive three-pointers from Tommy Scholl and Leming cut the deficit to one possession, and a Kyle Maddison layup leveled the game at 16.

After Stevens briefly took a 21-20 lead, the home side answered with a 6-0 run, holding the Ducks scoreless for more than three minutes. Anthony Loscalzo snapped the drought with a three-pointer and later drained another with 7:54 remaining to tie the game at 30. Neither team led by more than two the rest of the half, and a Delaware Valley jumper at the buzzer sent the Aggies into the break with a 43-42 advantage.

Stevens shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) from the floor in the opening half, while Delaware Valley connected at a 46.9 percent (15-of-32) clip.

Delaware Valley knocked down a three-pointer five-and-a-half minutes into the second half to regain a three-point edge, but Leming quickly responded with a triple of his own to tie the game once again. As in the first half, neither side was able to gain more than a one-possession lead before the Aggies strung together a 6-0 run to go up four with 10:45 remaining.

Harmehar Chhabra scored four straight points to even the contest at 58, and the two teams combined for just eight points over a five-minute stretch as the game remained tied at 62. Leming then knocked down a three-pointer to give Stevens a 65-62 lead before burying another on the next possession off a Scholl assist. The Ducks closed the game on a 13-4 run, holding Delaware Valley to just two field goals over the final 8:51 to secure the conference victory.
