Bethlehem, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's cross-country team competed against a bevy of Division I teams on Friday at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh.
The Ducks had 10 individuals competing in the Open Race amidst a field of more than 550 from schools including Yale, Penn, Cornell, Brown, Villanova, Penn State, Rutgers, Temple, and Seton Hall as well as nearly 20 more D-I institutions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Matthew Reed was Stevens' top finisher in 28:32.6, more than 1:30 faster than his time at the MAC Preview Meet two weeks ago. Benjamin Adamo was the next Duck over the line, running 29:09, shaving more than 35 seconds off his time from two weeks ago. Nelson VanMaaren (29:30.6) and Max Thorn (29:50.5) were the two remaining Ducks who ran under 30:00; VanMaaren knocked more than a minute off his MAC Preview Meet time, Thorn shaved off more than 15 seconds.
William Parker ran 30:32.2, 24 seconds faster his MAC Preview time, and Connor Wrinn ran 30:36.2, trimming seven seconds from his MAC Preview run.
Daniel Affoumani (31:04), Wesley Schlimer (31:47), Christian Garofano (31:47.1), and Ryan Garofano (33:03.9) were the final four Ducks in the race. Affoumani bettered his MAC Preview time by 38 seconds, Garofano bettered his by more than four minutes, and Schlimer set a monster PR by nearly two minutes.
The Championship race, scheduled to feature nine additional Ducks, was canceled.
