10 total student-athletes from the conference's cross country teams are recognized; student-athletes must have a fall semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award and nominated student-athletes are voted on by the athletic communications offices from the conference's 16 member institutions.
Barbi finished 19
th (out of 143) at the conference championship meet, the Ducks' high finisher on their way to a fourth-place finish; it was Barbi's third Top-20 finish of the season.
At the season-ending NCAA Metro Regional Championship two weeks after the MAC Championship Meet, Barbi was 28
th out of 179 total finishers, just three seconds from placing in the Top 25.
