No. 25 Field Hockey Blanks DeSales, 3-0, in MAC Freedom Action

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team picked up another MAC Freedom shutout Wednesday night, blanking DeSales, 3-0, from DeBaun Athletic Complex.

Four days after opening its conference schedule with a 7-0 win over King's, Stevens (7-4, 2-0) turned in another strong outing while picking up its sixth straight victory over the Bulldogs dating back to the 2023 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Although the first quarter ended scoreless, Stevens generated plenty of pressure, firing 10 shots and forcing five saves from DeSales goalkeeper Lily Trocki.

The breakthrough finally came just past three minutes gone in the second quarter. After Molly DiCampli corralled possession from deep in her own defensive end to deep into the attacking zone, the senior fired a shot Trocki turned aside, but Sophia Cozza fought for the loose ball and obtained possession long enough to find the back of the cage.

Just over three minutes later, the Ducks struck again when Taylor Brooks finished a chance off an assist across the circle from Jess Kopernick, extending the advantage to 2-0. In the final minute of the half, Lauren Flynn kept the Bulldogs off the board with a sprawling defensive save.

Stevens didn't waste much time adding to its cushion after the break. Midway through the third quarter, Jenna Piantieri redirected an arcing ball off the stick of Brooks to make it 3-0.

Though the Ducks did not find the back of the net the rest of the night, the pressure did not stop, as Stevens finished with 11 shots in just the second half alone, forcing another five saves from Trocki. Natalie Ward stopped four shots to preserve the shutout, the final one of the night coming in the final minute of the match.
