York, Pa. –
Eszter Kiss and
Delaney Klaus of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's swim team tallied NCAA "B" cuts on the second day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships on Friday.
The Ducks lead the field with 816 points, while Misericordia sits second with 721. Messiah holds third with 523 points, as York (462) and Widener (354) round out the top five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kiss and Klaus registered the Ducks' first known NCAA "B" cuts since Kaitlynn Prescott in 2018, with Kiss earning her mark in the 200-freestyle and Klaus posting hers in the 100-backstroke during the 400-medley relay. Kiss also broke the MAC Championship record in the 200-freestyle, clocking in at 1:52.06 to surpass Isabella Fairman's previous mark of 1:52.29 set at the 2019 Championships.
Klaus recorded her NCAA mark as part of the record-breaking 400-medley relay, as the Ducks shattered the MAC Championship standard. The foursome of Klaus, Kiss, Adrianna Bertolotti, and
Natalia Brunetti turned in a time of 3:52.76, shaving nearly two seconds off Messiah's 2019 Championship record. Brunetti added an individual victory in the 100-butterfly, touching the wall in 56.8. She won the event by over a second after leading the preliminary round.
The quartet of Brunetti,
Ashley Settle, Bertolotti, and Sokolik tied for second place in the 200-freestyle relay, finishing alongside York in 1:40.03.
Hanna Matheson placed second in the 400-IM with a time of 4:46.16, leading five Ducks who qualified for the A finals. Sokolik followed closely in third (4:46.49), while
Dora Dvorkin (4:52.09),
Gabby Tyer (4:53.04), and
Emery Fitzharris (4:54.62) also competed in the championship heat.
Allie Halverson qualified for the B finals in the 400-IM, finishing in 5:21.13, while
Samantha Gallo captured the B finals victory in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:01.92.
Megan Koek (2:02.7) and
Julia McKinley (2:03.2) finished back-to-back in the 200-freestyle. Stevens placed 14th in both the 200-freestyle relay (Gallo,
Abigail Rosingana, Matheson,
