Men's Basketball Rides Monster First Half To 93-89 MAC Freedom Win Over King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team dropped 55 points in the first half then survived a late comeback effort from King's Wednesday night in a 93-89 win in MAC Freedom action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stevens (13-7. 7-2) started the first half strong and finished even stronger, hitting 17 of their final 18 shots after starting 5-for-9. All nine players who took the floor for the Ducks scored in the half; in fact all nine had scored in the first 11 minutes.

Brendan Coughlan led the way with 14 points on a perfect 7-for-7 from the field; Anthony Loscalzo and Tommy Scholl each had nine, Harmehar Chhabra had six, and Evan Gutowski & Peter Gray each had five. In all, the team shot 81.5 percent from the floor (22-for-27), scoring 43 points over the final 14 minutes and 37 over the final 11.

The second half began with numerous attempts from the Monarchs to make a significant dent in the deficit, though Stevens remained comfortably in front, 75-64, through the first 12 minutes. Even after King's managed to work back to 77-71 at the 6:45 mark, the Ducks kept them at bay, pushing things back to 86-76 with four minutes left.

The Monarchs did not go quietly, finally closing all the way to a single possession, 88-85, with 27 seconds left, but the Ducks let them draw no closer, hitting five of their final six from the free throw line to close out the win.
